Wiki

From Wikis In The Workplace: How Wikis Can Help Manage Knowledge In Library Reference Service, I discovered that Ward Cunningham created the Wiki in 1995. Wiki is a Hawaiian term for quick.
I read parts of the PALS wiki and appreciated the visual instructions on the Millennium Serials Manual. Librarians will like the PALS Known Issues - Resolved, Pending and Unresolved.
Librarians can also keep informed about new features to the Web Opac such as "Forgot Your Password."
I was not impressed by the Book Lovers Wiki. It didn't seem current. The St. Joseph County Public Library Wiki of Subject Guides seemed very helpful.

FEEDS

I searched for information on Syndic8.com, Techmorati and used Blogline's Search Tool where I found beautiful pictures of villas for rent in Greece should I ever become wealthy. I read the news on Google Reader.

Feeds

I found a link to RSS right on our Library's homepage. It features new adult fiction and new non-fiction, new DVD's, new music and library programs. It also features new items in Childrens and Young Adults. I further found a Directors RSS and a Staff RSS. Feeds are also available on the staff catalog under Quick Links.
Once patrons know about this feature I believe they will find it very useful for discovering the new items our library has added to our collection. I don't know enough about this to suggest an improvement.

Suffolk Wave

I checked out a book from Suffolk Wave entitled: Pieces of My Heart - A Life by Robert J. Wagner. Unlike the rest of the modern world, I do not have a computer at home or an MP3 player. I tried to download this book onto the staff computer however the message reads "Windows doesn't recognize this file type."

Feed Readers

I was able to read todays Newsday articles about Long Island. Usually, I just go to Newsday's homepage. I'm not exactly sure why a feed reader is helpful.

Library Thing

I created a Library Thing account with 3 books in my catalog. It is a good way to keep track of your reading list. I checked on our catalog for the title 7th Heaven. I no longer see words that have been tagged. I only see words under the subject catagories. +
